Oxbow Tote Class - October 6th
October 6 from 9-4 with a lunch break.
At Roy E. Estle Library in Dallas Center, IA
Cost: $80
Some bag experience is helpful but not required.
Oxbow Tote Pattern can be purchased here.
When choosing the exterior fabric and interfacing consider how structured you would like the bag to be.
-
Canvas and foam will provide the greatest structure
-
Quilting cotton with SF 101 and fusible fleece will provide the least and the bag will look somewhat slouchy. Oxbow Tote Interfacing Kit can be purchased here.
-
Waxed canvas requires no interfacing and provides a medium amount of structure.
-
Depending on your machine 2 layers of foam may be difficult to sew through. Check where you are purchasing your supplies to check out the feel and thickness of your choices.
The requirements must be done before class. There will not be time in class to complete these steps.
Class requirements:
-
All pieces must be interfaced and cut to size per the pattern. Don't forget the lining.
-
Given the size of the bag, I recommend that you quilt the pieces after interfacing and before cutting to size. The quilting will shrink the pieces a small amount (more if using foam) so keep that in mind.
-
Read through the entire pattern before class. The following pattern sections must be done before class.
-
Step 1: prepare the reinforced base
-
Step 2: assemble the crossbody strap
-
Step 5: make handles
-
Step 6: make interior pocket
-
Step 7: make exterior pocket (you may make 2 exterior pockets and if you would like to make a trolley sleeve, prepare the pieces for an extra exterior pocket. Don't sew those pieces yet.
