Class description: Feeling stuck on where and how to start your first improv quilt? In this class we’ll cover the basics of ruler-free cutting, sewing without pins and building blocks. No matching of seams makes improv easy and liberating, making you confident in no time.
We’ll cover:
- Half-square triangles
- Quarter circle curves
- Soft curves
- Improv triangles
Skill level: must be able to consistently sew a quarter inch seam allowance, and have basic quilting knowledge (i.e. how to use a rotary cutter).
Supplies:
- Sewing machine in good working order
- Quarter inch foot
- Basic sewing supplies
- Extension cord
- Rotary cutter
- Cutting mat
- Neutral thread
- Ruler (I like a 2.5” x 12.5” and a larger one for squaring up blocks)
- Fabric: 4-6 fat quarters or half yards in solids or near solids that work together in a variety of values and hues.
